In this week’s Chanukah Edition of Mishpacha Magazine you will find a feature I wrote about our 3-year quest to produce our own olive oil from the beautiful olive trees that surround us here in the Land of Israel.
Expect vivid descriptions of gorgeous landscape, wrangles with taciturn farmers and tenacity in the face of repeated failure, all marinated in self-deprecating humor.
Someone asked me: “Why would you invest so much time to write an article about olive harvesting for a magazine that is primarily read by New Yorkers who have zero interest in olive harvesting?”
I know my answer to the question. I do wonder if it comes through in the article.
My name is Naomi and this is my tiny little farm in the heart of the rapidly growing city of Beit Shemesh, Israel. I enjoy growing, making and processing as much of my families own food and household essentials as possible, while nurturing a biodiverse ecosystem filled with beauty and life.
